BENTONITE

Bentonite is a plastic clay and consists predominantly of montmorillonite. Its special properties of plasticity, water absorption viscocity, thixotropic and ion exchange capacity, sealing and bonding abilities, make bentonite a very valuable clay for a wide range of uses and applications.

Bentonite may be used:

  • in wastewater treatment due to its absorption and flocculation properties.
  • for the clarification of drinking water and the reduction of its fluoride content up to 50%.
  • in the treatment of wastewater from paper mills, its clarification after deinking and the white waters cleaning,  aiming to the water reuse in the process. In addition, it is used as a drainage and retention aid and as an absorption medium, improving papers properties and quality.
  • as an additive for animals’ feed.
  • in oil drilling,  in the production of castings and iron-ore pellets in foundry and pelletizing respectively, in geotechnical engineering projects.
