ORGANIC COAGULANTS

The organic coagulants most commonly used today in water treatment, consist of two large families of products, quaternary polyamines and polyDadmac (Polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride).

Their two main characteristics are:

  • a very high cationic charge to neutralize the negative charges of the colloids
  • a relatively low molecular weight which allows rapid diffusion in the medium and around the particles

The way organic coagulants act is based on the coagulation mechanism. They are used in various applications, mainly in the treatment of drinking water and wastewater and in paper manufacturing.
